Founders’ Sculpture Prize

Ellen was awarded the Founders’ Sculpture prize in December 2014

For this biennial competition the prize committee decided to make a change by setting a common task to all five finalists, much like a normal commission to celebrate some prominent figure.

The subject of the Founders’ Prize commission was Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaca of Ancient Greece, whose exploits were documented by Homer.

The finalists’ task was to find a different, perhaps modern, interpretation of Odysseus.

Ellen’s model for the winning maquette was Pete Marsden

Her artist’s statement, which was submitted with the maquette, can be viewed here
